The school was opened in 1955 in the old Clapham High buildings on the corner of Du Toit and Dr Savage Streets. The name of the School was suggested by a member of staff, Miss L.L. Roe, and was formally adopted on the 1st of February 1955, at a meeting of over two hundred parents. At the same time the school motto - LEVABO OCULOS which means "I will lift up my eyes" - suggested by Mr E. van Niekerk, was accepted; the school colours, anthem and uniform were decided upon and a parents' association was formed.

Mr M.H. Blem held the office of acting principal until the permanent appointment of Mr T.W. Chapman on 3 August 1955. Mr G. Frielick succeeded Mr Chapman in 1966 and Mr W.P. van Schalkwyk was acting principal from September 1974 until December 1975. Mr J.F McDougall then took over until his retirement in December 1985. During Mr McDougall's headship the school moved to its present position on the banks of the Apies River in Roseville. Miss N. Myburgh acted as principal from January 1986 to July 1986. Mr G.D. Grover was appointed Principal in August 1986; he was promoted to Superintendent of Education (Geography) on 1 March 1993.

Miss N. Myburgh acted as principal from 1 March 1993 and was officially appointed as principal on 1 July 1993. Miss Myburgh retired March 2004. Mr J.G. Hepburn was acting principal from April 2004 until December 2004. Mr Hepburn was appointed Principal in January 2005.

AMENITIES

The school is splendidly equipped. The Science and Biology Laboratories, Hospitality Studies, Technology and Arts and Culture Centres are of the most modern design. The school has 2 excellent Computer Centres with the latest technology, a Gauteng-on-Line Lab and three classes equipped with Interactive White Boards. There is a magnificent hall and a large gymnasium. All-weather tennis and basketball courts, netball fields and cricket nets are in use. Soccer and hockey fields and an eight-lane Athletics track overlooked by a large grandstand, are fully grassed.
